Every woman has a story — the highs, the lows, and all the messy, beautiful bits in between. SLAM Sessions is our way of sharing those stories, shining a light on the women in our community and the journeys that shape them.

This month, we’re honoured to introduce Jemima Clarke, founder of The Counselling Cove in Caringbah. Jemima is a registered counsellor who helps people find calm in the chaos — supporting clients through grief, anxiety, burnout, and the challenges of everyday life. Her warmth, authenticity, and grounded wisdom have made her practice a safe harbour for so many seeking connection and clarity.

Meet Jemima

Name: Jemima Clarke

What she does: Registered Counsellor & Founder

“My ‘why’ is to create spaces of genuine connection, where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to live authentically.”

What inspired you to follow your path?

“I’ve always been drawn to people and connection — even as a child, I loved bringing others together. I started in travel and event management because it was energetic and people-focused, but as I became a mother, I felt something was missing.

I’ll never forget being at a celebrity event, desperate to leave early to get to a mindfulness course I was taking. Sitting there, learning about the brain and mental health strategies, I felt completely at home. That course changed my life — I left my entire career before it even finished and retrained as a counsellor while raising my kids.

It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been deeply fulfilling. I’ve worked across crisis support, bereavement services, and now my own practice — and every experience has brought me closer to work that feels truly meaningful.”

What drives you - your “why”?

“My purpose is to create safe, authentic spaces where people can be fully themselves. I’m drawn to the raw, real stuff — the parts of life we often hide or try to manage alone. That’s where the most powerful healing begins.”

Biggest challenge so far?

“Starting over. On paper, I had everything — career, family, a full life — but I was deeply unhappy. Walking away from all of it was both terrifying and freeing.

Choosing less was really choosing more: more presence, more connection, more space to breathe. Sometimes the hardest decisions are the ones that finally create the life that fits.”

One piece of advice to your younger self (or women starting out)?

“Trust your gut. It took me a year of ruminating and feeling lost before a few gentle conversations helped me see clearly again.

Often, it’s the smallest question that can unravel years of overthinking — that space to pause, reflect, and realign can change everything.”

What does connection mean to you?

“For me, connection is about authenticity — a space where you can be real, share your vulnerabilities, and feel safe. True connection isn’t performative; it’s honest. That’s what I aim to cultivate — in my counselling work, my relationships, and my community.”

How has community supported you?

“I wear a lot of hats — counsellor, mum, partner — and having community in each area of my life has been invaluable. Whether it’s friends helping with school runs or the incredible women I’ve met through SLAM’s business lunches, having a network of support changes everything.

Finding your tribe — the people who see you, challenge you, and hold space for you — is essential.”

How do you hope to uplift other women?

“I love helping women recognise the strength they already carry, even when they can’t see it. It’s not about pretending everything’s perfect, but about finding courage in the midst of the hard stuff.

In my sessions, I keep things down-to-earth and compassionate, so people can relax, drop their guard, and gently uncover truths they may not have spoken aloud before.”

Fun & Lighthearted with Jemima

Perfect weekend: A run, cheering on my kids at sport, time with friends, and a relaxed Sunday adventure with family — beach, bush, or anywhere we can make memories.

Coffee or cocktail: Coffee first… then maybe a cocktail later.

Sunrise or sunset: Both — one brings reflection, the other renewal.

Favourite podcasts: All In The Mind, Conversations, and The Imperfects.

Fun fact: I’m a trail runner! Later this year, I’m tackling a 50km ultra trail in the Kosciuszko mountains with a friend — so here’s hoping I survive it.

Why We Love Jemima’s Story

Jemima’s journey is one of courage and authenticity — a reminder that sometimes, the bravest thing we can do is start again. Her work at The Counselling Cove reminds us that healing isn’t about perfection, but presence — finding peace, purpose, and connection in the midst of real life.

This is what SLAM Sessions are all about — real women, real stories, and the power of connection.
