There are moments when the world feels louder, heavier, and closer to home than usual. When difficult news fills our feeds and conversations, it’s natural to feel unsettled - even if the events didn’t happen directly to us.

You might notice your mind racing, your chest feeling tight, your sleep disrupted, or a sense of unease you can’t quite explain. If that’s you, please know: your reaction is valid. These are normal responses to abnormal situations.

At times like this, looking after your wellbeing isn’t indulgent - it’s essential.

It’s okay to feel how you feel

Everyone processes challenging moments differently. Some people feel anxious, others feel flat or emotional, and some feel the urge to disconnect altogether. There is no “right” way to respond.

What matters most is giving yourself permission to slow down and care for your nervous system.

Gentle ways to support your wellbeing

Here are a few simple, grounding practices that can help when things feel overwhelming:

Limit the noise

You don’t need to stay constantly informed. Stepping back from the news or social media - even briefly - can give your mind space to breathe.

Ground your body

Movement helps release tension. A walk in nature, gentle stretching, yoga, or even standing barefoot on grass can help bring you back into the present moment.

Breathe with intention

Slow, deep breathing can calm your nervous system. Try inhaling for four counts and exhaling for six - just a few minutes can make a difference.

Stick to simple routines

Regular meals, early nights, and familiar routines create a sense of safety when the outside world feels unpredictable.

Lean into connection

In uncertain times, connection matters more than ever. A message to a friend, a coffee catch-up, or simply sitting with someone who understands can be incredibly grounding.

You don’t need to have the right words. Sometimes being present is enough.

SLAM Society was created from the belief that women shouldn’t have to navigate life alone - not just during the joyful moments, but also during the heavier ones. Community is about showing up for each other in all seasons.

Be kind to yourself

If you’re feeling more tired, emotional, or sensitive than usual, try to meet yourself with compassion. Rest when you need to. Say no without guilt. Do the small things that help you feel safe and supported.

And if things feel too heavy to carry on your own, reaching out for professional support is a strong and caring choice.

At SLAM, we believe in kindness, inclusion, and connection — especially when the world feels unsettled. If

you’re feeling this weight, know that you’re not alone, and you’re always welcome in our community.

Take care of yourself, and take care of each other. 🤍

If you’re feeling like you need a little extra connection right now, you’re welcome to join our SLAM Society Facebook communities — a safe and supportive space to chat, listen, or simply be around others who get it:
